Postby popples » 14. Mar 06, 00:03

OK I WOULD LIKE TO CREATE THIS TOPIC FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO SHARE OR FIND JUKE BOX CASE DESIGNS OR HELP CREATING ONE. IF YOU WISH FEAL FREE TO E-MAIL ME I DO WORK AS A DRAFTER AND HAVE PROBLEM HELLPING PEOPLE OUT WITH THEIR PLANS.

NOW ON TO WHY I CREATED THIS POST FOR REAL. YOU SEE MY BUDDIE REPTILEHEAD POASTED A COMMENT ABOUT MY CASE ON A DIFFERENT TOPIC THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CASE DESIGN SO IM GOING TO ANSWER YOU HERE.

IM NOT GOING WITH A HOME AMP SET UP THE BOX IS SETUP FOR A 4 WAY CAR AMP, 2 CHANNELS FOR THE LEFT AND RIGHT (YES YOU WERE RIGHT ON THE SIZE) 6X9'S AND THE OTHER TWO CHANNELS WILL BE EATEN UP WITH A SUB-BRIDGE :-) MAKE IT LOUD FOR DADDY! ANY HOW THE HOME AMP IS JUST A SPLITTER IN THE BOX THAT MAKES IT SO CAN SET UP 3 1/4" HEADPHONE JACKS AND RUN THEM AS A DIRECT CONNECT 6 CHANNEL OUT-PUT FOR AN EXTERNAL AMP WITH A 5.1 SET UP, IT CAN HOWEVER BE DONE BETTER WITH A SINGEL RCA CO-AX HOOKUP. IM STILL DEBAITING ON BOTH OPTIONS I MAY JUST END UP WITH BOTH :-) WHY NOT RIGHT? AND ABOUT THE BUTTONS MY GRANDMA USED TO GET THIS COLORED VINAL 8.5X11 CONTACT TYPE SHEETS THAT WOULD HOLD TO ANYTHING, AND BY ANYTHING I MEAN ANYTHING, IN FACT I USED IT AS TAPE ONCE IN MY BEDROOM WHEN I WAS LIKE 12 TO HANG A POSTER AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE JUNK OFF THE WALL WAS TO SAND DOWN AND RETEXTURE AND PAINT THE WALL :-( SO I FIGURED I USE THAT WITH 3/4" LETTER TEMPLATES FORM THE HARDWARE STORE. THE COLOR OF THE BUTTONS REALLY DONT MATTER TO ME MUCH I STILL DONT KNOW HOW IM GOING TO PAINT THE BOX, THAT AND I STILL DONT KNOW IF I WANT TO STICK THE LABELS ON THE BUTTONS OR ABOVE THEM. OH AND ABOUT SHEILDING I DON’T KNOW IF AN LCD MONITOR IS SUBJECT TO GETTING MAGNATISED IT DOESN’T HAVE A TUBE YOU KNOW? BUT HEY SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT ILL GIVE IT A SHOT ON ONE OF MY MONITORS AT WORK ;-)

the car amp idea (from what ive been reading) will need a seperate powersupply, since the pc power supply will give "dirty"12vdc. yeah yeah i know i was hoping too. why bother with running it into a decoder(home amp) just to route it through a car amp? why not just get a splitter for the channels with the miniplugs ("y connector") and run it straight to amp? you could plate mount the 5.1 plugs (either front or back) on a plate and have them easilly acessable without more heat being generated. or even better run your juke as the fronts and only need to have the plugs for center and rear needed.
speaking of heat, with the setup im planning on running will a dual output 92mm fan setup give proper cooling to the car amp, TV, AND circulaton enough for the PC?
or would i be better off taking apart another microwave again? lol

for those that are wondering im building "juke on a budget" everything possible will be scavenged motherboard, sound card, video card, cd rom, HDDs, TV, speakers and amps. nothing will be new unless impossible to find. it will be in a scavenged arcade cab (what ever i can find) and instead of running happ buttons ill be runnning a usb "roll up" keyboard mounted to the facing, and a usb keypad as well, perhaps i will scavenge a trackball from somewhere, but the idea for mine is to spend "as little as possible, as easy as possible" in hopes that others (that may not be technically skilled) can build and replicate my juke on a weekend with thier kids as a way to get them both technically and mechanically inclined.
basicly what im planning it to look and act like is a pc with a built in stereo (400 watts plus) that can be rolled wherever you need it built out parts laying around.
it will be a dedicated juke though, with the possibility of being used in a severe pinch as a pc. IF it works, im hoping to create this monster for under $500 considering that im useing scavenged parts (some i already have). its still in concept mode, becuase i was waiting for a bit of free time.
oh and popples? i decided to go with the side firing speakers and rear firing sub to avoid any potential sheilding issues... theyre more than 2 feet away from the monitor ;)
