Limitation: # of tracks per album?

Postby Dubious » 11. Sep 08, 19:00

I have an "album" that has exactly 500 tracks. (If you are curious, the album is 'Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time') SJ seems to only display the first 367 tracks. Additionally, the cover art for this album does not appear. In its place is the error message:

"Cannot open 'F:/My Downloads/Music/MP3/Various Artists/Rolling Stong Top 500 Songs of All Time/036 - U2 - One.mp3#id3:image1.jpg'. Image may be corrupted"

The cover art displays without problem in other applications. I'm guessing that this is some sort of limitation of SJ?

Well, if I change the [embedded] cover art to another file its still messed up. If I remove the [embedded] cover art from all of the tracks but leave the folder.jpg file in the folder, then SJ displays the art correctly, but the tracks are still not all there.

At this point I think there are two things going on:
--
1. I have some sort of ID3 tag problem with some tracks, causing them to not be properly associated with this album. I have been over the tags at least a dozen times and haven't found any problems so I don't know what could be going on.

2. I think that SJ has a problem with embedded cover art when the # of tracks in an album is very large. I have 700 albums of 'standard' size that have embedded cover art and none of them is giving me a 'corrupted' error.

I'll look deeper into my potential ID3 tag issue. Anyone recommend a free tag editor that can read ALL tag formats? Anyone know what priority SJ gives to various tag formats?

My favorite (free) MP3 Tagger is MP3Tag:

Ok, I found the problem but I can't find a way to fix it.

If you go to 'Settings --> My Music Library --> Combine Tracks to Albums' there are two settings that are screwing me up:
--
1. An album must have at least [#] tracks with corresponding [setting]

2. Compilations may contain up to [#] tracks of the same artist

The album that I am working with has about 15 Beatles tracks, 6 Rolling Stone tracks, etc. These tracks are being pulled out of the compilation and are being placed in their own "album". If I tweak these settings I can get all but the Beatles tracks into the proper place. Since #2 above only goes up to 10 tracks, I cannot set it high enough to get rid of the Beatles "created album".

The reason that Frenchi doesn't have this problem is because you have yours broken up into 5 separate albums of 100 tracks each. Each album of yours is not hitting the threshold of this setting. I may have to do the same thing to get around this.

I gotta stop replying to myself ...

Ok I fixed this without breaking the album up into smaller pieces.

On the two settings above, I set them to:
1. An album must have at least [1] tracks with corresponding [directory].
2. Compilations may contain up to [10] tracks of the same artist.

This only works because I am OCD and have every single album in its own folder on my HD. I actually have one album that is only 2 tracks in size so I was having a problem until I set #1 properly.

This is working fine now, even with the cover art embedded in each track. I think there may be a bug in SJ that will give the 'corrupted' cover art error if the album is broken up by SJ, using the same cover art file for different 'albums'.
