Video playing in 3.02 does not do anything

Hi Team,

I just gave the 3.02 beta a spin:

- I put some avi's in a directory, set up a music library, they showed up
- I double clicked one of them: nothing happened except the position display increased.
- I pressed F2 to activate the output, it showed a black workspace with 'video output' in the top left corner
- After some seconds the 'playing' stopped at 0:07

I never see anything like video playing, and all video's I tested stop at 0:07. They all play normally in any other video player (yes, even in the Microsoft one).

I also tested with the silverjuke.exe in an empty directory with the registry cleared, but nothing changed.

Am I doing something wrong?

First, thank you for your support.

As you may have noticed, the video support is still beta - and buggy in some cases. Some codecs and systems are just fine, other do crash. Unfortunately, it is not always easy for us to find the reasons for concrete failures.

If AVIs do not play at the moment, you have two choices:
- try to install/update the corresponding codecs in DirectShow
- do not uses the AVIs

However, as mentioned, we're working on this point.

Some more info then: I use ffdshow as codec, and the attached file is a graphedit save when parsing one of my files. SJ does not build even succesfully build the graph as far as I can see, at least it never shows up as something for graphedit to connect to. Which is weird, cause if graphedt can build it, why can't SJ?

Anyway, maybe this helps. Let me know if you need more debugging info.

Hi all,

I have the same problem with 3.02 - I am playing mp4 files but am only seeing a black video screen.

Is there anything I can load into the SJ directory to cure this?

Just an update on my previous post.

Avi's play fine - it is just mp4's that are not playing.

I have service pack 3 on windows XP with all the updates.

I had the same problem, then I realized that silverjuke was recognizing my mp4 files as audio files, due to the being an audio file supported by silverjuke with the mp4 tag. Under advanced settings I removed the extension from one of the audio file sections ( I can't remember which one, but have a look and you find it). The add mp4 to the video extensions list. And hopefully it will work. It did for me

Hi,

Had big hopes for this idea but it didn't work for me.

I removed mp4 from the AAC/MP4 decoder and added mp4 to the Video Decoder over Direct Show (beta) and the mp4 videos still di d not play.

Any futher ideas?

Hi,

Ok I have sussed it - much to do with the help received from the oracle that is SilverEagle.

Windows Media Player does not play mp4's by default so you have to download a codec pack to allow it. I tried several sites - most of which try to load in a load of other stuff into your computer than just the codec you want - but the codec pack available here:

works.

I can now play mp4s and avis just fine in Silverjuke.

Now all is well with the world.
