Hi guys, I'm the pround owner of a Wurlitzer CD jukebox (classic style, bubble tubes). Beautiful thing, but as a jukebox, incredibly limited compared to every PC media player out there.
I'm looking at a project to update the box by integrating a mini-PC with a touchscreen interface. Ideally I'd like to replace one of the 2 glass panels that have dummy "singles strips" behind them with a small (7"?) frameless touch screen.
The software needs to look and feel as much like the original box as I can make it, so there'll be no album sleeves, video etc, just a very limited text section and a handful of control buttons. Essentially the touchscreen will disappear into the overall design of the box (unlike the ipod dock that Wurlitzer themselves have launched!!!!!)
Has anyone done anything like this?
Do you reckon Silverjuke is a good starting point?
Any help / ideas gratefully received.
EDIT Posting this has got me started on how this might actually work. I've added a quick layout of what the screen layout could look like. (try and imagine it in a kind of 50's retro style)
On startup the text boxes might show a choice of views
Artist/Album Artist/Album/Genre/Year etc
Touching Artist would bring up a list of Artists (in the same text boxes). Up/Down would scroll by page, Next/Previous by Alphabet
Selecting an Album, the first box would sat "Play All", followed by a list of tracks.
etc etc
Very simple........

Re: Wurlitzer upgrade project
i think doswin cab jukebox might be the right program
Re: Wurlitzer upgrade project
With some scripting everything seems to be possible with Silverjuke (I'm talking about BlueTouch/RedTouch, see http://forum.silverjuke.net/viewtopic.php?t=2968
), however, the handling of a "normal" Wurlitzer does not use the "normal" powerful Silverjuke features ...

Re: Wurlitzer upgrade project
I believe it a 1015 CD One More Time. About 10 years old, so it has the earlier amp and control box.
As for the functionality, I'm really looking for as many features as I can within the confines of the look and feel of the box, and the small screen size. I'm happy to use as much as I can "under the covers", but I want the UI to look as "wurlitzer" as I can. So for example, I expect to see 2 levels of config type options. Some commonly used stuff that the family might use, like clearing the queue, switching random and and off, would be available from a "wurlitzer" type menu, everything else that only I will ever touch can be in standard format. I plan to do "housekeeping" remotely from another PC anyway.

Hi stricko,
Silverjuke can indeed do what you want with some scripting (well: to be frank quite a lot of it) although it is quite contrary to its normal interface.
Like the first reply said: DWjukebox (previously called doscab/wincab) might better suit you for this particular purpose. They have some skins nearly matching your requirements, if you are a bit software-savvy you might find it easy to adopt one of these.
But then again Silverjuke _is_ very powerful, and maybe your average user might even like a third optional interface sometimes: simple to use but not completely Wurlitzer. Think something with more elaborate search facilities and cover art.

SilverEagle

Re: Wurlitzer upgrade project
Thanks for this. The other player mentioned does indeed like a quick fir to what I'm trying to do, but doesn't have the features I'd like. I'll have a play with both and see how I get on.
Re: Wurlitzer upgrade project
maybe touch and go jukebox might do the job
