Problem with default cover assigned wrong multiple times

Postby bobcrash » 11. Dec 08, 01:37

Hi guys... LOVE the program! just started trial.. had it load abt 10 albums in their folders and 60 misc songs in one folder for testing. Quite a number of the singles have taken on a 'cover.jpg' listed in a different folder (and a 'real' cover)as their cover.

...tried right click>cover reassign, etc... nothing changes.

...songs doing this (not all) are in a new 'album' silver made, and only one song in each new 'album'. Again, these songs are all referencing an album cover in an actual unrelated album folder, except for one song that points to a totally different cover in another folder (unrelated music-wise).

...refreshing, rereading, rebooting does not change it. I then loaded abt 40 more album folders (well organized artist, albums folders) and they joined up just fine, no problems. Still have original problem.

Instead of playing around to solve this, (like starting over, or just fiddling around with everything! ...lol) I thought you might want to have a say or a look at things.

I think I know an answer to part of your problem.

You say that you have a collection of about 60 misc songs in one folder, but each track seems to be put into its own 'album'. This is because of 1 or 2 settings that are set incorrectly for your setup.

Go into Settings --> My Music Library --> Combine Tracks to Albums.

There you want to look at "An album must have at least [xxx] tracks with corresponding [xxx]". If you have each album in its own folder, set this to "1" and "directory" respectively. This will cause each folder to be its own album - even if there is only one single track in that folder. Your compilation of 60 odd tracks will be its own album.

As to why you are seeing cover art mismatches for these songs I'm not sure, but if you make the change above and then recreate the music library it may clear up.

Sorry Dubious, but you completely missed what I was saying...

Silver split everything up exactly per it's default rules... My 60 odd tracks were made into albums, some containing more than one song per album, if the artist/album matched on more than 2 songs. My regular albums in their folders came in just fine. I did not want my 60 odd songs to land in one 'compilation' album. I wanted them to be split up just like they were.

I am simply reporting a small bug in the program that is assigning somewhat randomly an album cover jpeg in another real album to some of the new 'albums' instead of the 'default' album cover (generated, it normally appears) to that new 'album'.

The only other info i had for the real silver guys was that this wrong default cover assigned was only happening to new generated 'albums' that only contained one song.

I don't have any desire to change the organization that silver did with the misc songs, and I wanted to give the silver guys a shot at why the cover problem happens.

Thanks for your ideas, but I'll wait for more information before I redo anything.

Hello bobcrash,

first: Welcome aboard!

To your problem:

If I understand you correctly, the albums are created correctly from the 60 songs, but get the "wrong" cover? Some hints:

- well, if there is only one "cover.jpg" together with the 60 files, it is normal that all created albums get the same cover

- you say, that the default cover comes from a different folder? Are you sure? Please to check this using "Explore" - as the show paths may be truncated, some times it is not really clear where the files really are.

- Maybe there are older assignments? To remove them, right click on any cover and select "Effects/options / Use default covers" from the context menu.

- Finally: Assigning covers manually should work - and this is the recommended way for such situations. We've just tested this part here without problems. Please try the different options "Select file / Browse ...", "Select file /
" etc. from the context menu. Does at least some things get to work?

Maybe some of these points will help you.

Best regards,
Your Silverjuke-Team

Thanks for your reply..

> if there is only one "cover.jpg" together with the 60 files,

No, there was no art of any kind in the folder with the 60 files.

> you say, that the default cover comes from a different folder? Are you sure?

Yes. File structure is simple.. C:\Music\Led Zeppelin\..about 5 Led Zep albums under it... and 6 or 7 more albums off of C:\Music, including this particular one --> C:\Music\Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash Concert, and in this one folder/album of abt 20 songs is the 'cover.jpg' that is being hooked up to some of the 60 songs that actually and physically are in: C:\Music\MP3_CD_Stack\ <---again, this is the folder the 60 songs are in.

Because the C:\Music\Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash Concert\cover.jpg is actually a picture of Bob Dylan, that is what shows up on the created albums!!!

I've 'refreshed' with F5, ..no difference. Now this last time after a 'rebuild' database, I can finally right click cover and am able to choose
, or browse to any cover, which did nothing before.

Please note the file and cover I am right-clicking on is a 'Rolling Stones' track in it's own silver assigned 'album' with an album cover picture of Bob Dylan showing in Silver!

However, the first two choices remain on the same cover right-click menu..
1)a strange one referencing a bob dylan mp3 file --> C:/Music/Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash Concert/01 Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash - Girl From the North Country.mp3#id3:image1.jpg
2)C:\Music\Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash Concert\cover.jpg (Default)
3)

Hmm.. I did first run the 60 songs thru MusicBrainz just before starting up Silver originally. Noting the odd reference silver did for #1 above, I looked at the tags MusicBrainz added to the '01 Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash - Girl From the North Country.mp3' song. One of the tags reads: APIC [3]:image/jpeg, 56 KB (56,985 Byte)

It's beginning to look like the tag addition/s from MusicBrainz has caused the problem???

I'm playing with it this way, before I run my 4000 albums into it, and because of doing a lot of Beta Testing for the CAD market, I wanted to alert you guys. I just Love your program!!

Sorry this is so long, but Please note that I was able to re-create this on a second computer. (I am using v2.72)

regards,
bobcrash

Hello bobcrash,

Without understanding every single line, I can say the following:

The "C:/Music/Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash Concert/01 Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash - Girl From the North Country.mp3#id3:image1.jpg" references a cover embedded into the ID3 tag of the file "01 Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash - Girl From the North Country.mp3". As far as I know, if in doubt, Silverjuke uses these covers. Maybe this cover is simply wrong?

Regards,
B.
