I just love the new cover view in the 1.50 beta. It's great to be able to switch from the usual album view (which remains the best) to this new one.
I'd just suggest another view that would allow to show a still bigger part of the albums from the database : a "slice" view. I don't know if "slice" is the correct english word, but I mean the thin side of a CD box, which in a "real" CDs library displays vertically the artist and album. When you look at your CDs collection, it's a good way to have a fast overview.
Silverjuke could maybe create "virtual slices" for the CD's, with only the Artist and Album names, on a black (or random color) background.
Well, it's just a suggestion. :)

I think, you mean sth. like the following:
(of course, more readable)
Well, this is an idea, one can talk about - any suggestions from other forum-readers would be welcome. The problem I see at the moment, is where the graphics for the slices should come from ... however, thank you for the idea!

Hello iNyar,
for what would you use this? I don't want to turn my head 90° only to read my cd-database
Maybe a reduced view of the "listview" with only the album-names shown is an idea?

Yes, that's what I mean :)
But I don't think it's necessary to put the "real graphics" from the slices (anyway, they are rarely very 'special'). The purpose is to show an overview of the album library.
Well, I see 2 possibilities :
- Totally randomized creation of "virtual" slices (just like what Silverjuke do for albums without a cover) : random background color, simple font (must be readable)
- Extrapolation of the left border of the cover : for instance, take the first 5 horizontal pixels in the whole height, and expand it to have a background, then you add the artist and album names :

Well, indeed, yes, a "album only" list view would be already nice.
The only thing is that in a "Jukebox" use, I find those listviews very impersonnal. It feels just like a "computer database". Not very comfortable to be browsed when you just want to listen to some good music. I find the "slice" approach more personnal, more analogical...
But, well, maybe I'm quibbling

Okay - this is a possiblity that may work well. I think, we should keep this in mind. Maybe this is also an alternative for the list view to make it look less "impersonnal"? What do the other readers think about this?
