Hide the mouse

Postby popples » 12. Mar 06, 09:41

Ok I have a wedding coming up this October and im building a jukebox and using your software for its heart. now on my current design I have a panel that one button for all the English alphabet and one for the 0-9 area also I have the arrow buttons for scrolling setup and the number pad buttons for requesting music, what im looking for is two things...

one a way to remove the mouse cursor...

and two have the ability to push one button and have a search box open and then same button to act as an enter/search for this phrase in the library button, with that command, and I know I’m asking allot, that once a song is selected from the search criteria to clear out the search phrase, oh and say they push the button again with out selecting a song have it clear the search field but not bring the search up again... I think I explained it right...

any how the mouse is the height of my concern right now. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks for writing, popples.

You are right; this is a missing feature ... this will come in the next release (after 1.22 which is already "on the way").

Sorry, I do not exactly understand what you mean. Do you want sth. like predefined search phrases? I think the virtual keyboard does not help you if you have no mouse (or do you have a touchscreen?) ... for searching with a numpad, we have , however, I'm almost sure, this is not the point you mean ... can you please try to describe your point again? Maybe my english is too bad ...

Popples:
To instantly go into the "search" field, route the tab button, by pushing tab on a keyboard, it will instantly place the cursor in the search bar.
Now here's where it MIGHT get tricky with the setup you are running:
by pushing a letter, will it type in the search bar or will it bring you back out into the main screen? if you are running a combonation style mapper, any combonation of (tab+ ) will knock you out of the search since on a mapper tab is first then waits one second before launching the command to avoid ghosting.
by pressing tab button again, it will bring you to the main part of the screen where every letter will open that at the beginning.
thus....
tab (search area cursor blinking) search (pink floyd) instantly will show up, tab again and use arrows to scroll through albums, use numbers to enter selection 299108 (pink floyd-high hopes)
id suggest listing the tab button as search name/search letter or something that wont confuse the people using it. (build it idiot proof and theyll invent a bigger idiot)
ive noticed "enter" really isnt a command that im encountering, unless you use the arrow keys to highlight the song and hit enter to play/enque, however im useing "backspace" alot and dont forget "spacebar"
you might also want to consider the idea of having seperate controls for left and right scroll somewhere near the screen, since youre shooting for a "real jukebox" look.

the cursor: unless they enable it in the next version, might i suggest find a blind corner on your screen and hide it there while in kiosk mode? its a temp solution to the problem, but one that is still an option. And, in the event of a finiky keyboard that doesnt allow the function keys to start up on startup, it (mouse cursor) is still around to exit out of kiosk mode with the dual corner click fucntion if needed.

I TRIED THE TAB BUTTON AND IT WILL WORK BUT YOU ARE RIGHT I WILL HAVE TO ADD TWO MORE BUTTONS TO MY PLANS. OH AND I MADE A MOUSE CURSOR THAT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A SINGEL PIXEL DOT INCREDIBLY HARD TO SEE AT 1024X768 RESOLUTION BUT THE PROBLEM WITH THAT IS WHEN YOU LEAVE OUT OF THE FULL SCREEN VISUAL THE CUSOR IS PLACED AT THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN AND A TOOL TIP POPS UP, I LOOKED AT THE OPTIONS FOR TOOL TIPS AND FROM WHAT I CAN SEE THEIR IS NO ACTUAL WAY OF COMPLEETLY DISABLING THE TOOL TIPS BUT I MAY BE WRONG. MY WHOLE IDEA OF HOW I WOULD LIKE THE SEARCH TO WORK IS VERRY COMPLICATED AND WOULD REQUIRE A LOT OF 'IF' STATEMENTS POSIBLY SLOWING DOWN THE OVER ALL SPEED OF THE PROGRAM, AND LIKE I SAID IM NOT TO CONSERNED WITH IT, JUST THE MOUSE FEATURE.

THANKS FOR THE QUICK REPLIES

You can disable the tooltips at basic settings -> further options -> tooltips :-)

Hey bro,
The mouse single pixel sounds like a great idea, however if you would need to exit out of the juke, isnt it going to be just as hard to see? Personally I'm all for a "hide mouse cursor" command in the kiosk mode in the next release.
PS did you know that happ has volume discounts that can be substantial? Thats assumeing you can deal with the same color button all over the place. have you figured out how to print onto the buttons for the alphabet and arrows ect? Curious to know what youre thinking there. I thought about gettting the button sheilds, but theyre more expensive than the buttons. If you go with the setup and color scheme you sent me, im thinking black buttons with a gold or silver color lettering would be smoking hot. Oh yeah, what kind of speakers are going to fit into that setup anyways? they looked like 6x9 car speakers, but you were talking about a home amp setup... you realize that the difference in impedance will smoke an amp? And have you figured out a way to sheild the speakers since therye so close to the monitor?

Hello,

it took some time , however, in the next version there will be an option to hide the mouse cursor:

The mouse cursor will be hidden in kiosk mode if the option "Settings / Kiosk mode / Virtual keyboard / Hide cursor" is enabled. This setting is independent of the virtual keyboard setting itself.
