I found the following sites useful to convert rare media formats eg. to MP3:

http://www.zamzar.com

There is no need to install any software - just upload a file and download it in the desired format.

A similar site is , which, however, requires a login. The site also allows to download videos eg. from YouTube and save them to your local disk :-)
