How can I do this. I have many songs split off into multiple albums, and would just as soon consolidate them. Must I go in and 'fib' about the album title to get them to combine? I would LIKE to be able to graphically just drop-and-drag songs between albums, and right-click on the empty album to delete it.

Drag'n'drop between albums is not possible. Drag'n'drop is possible between albums and the playlist or external programs. Please refer to the following thread for some details about your question:
