Feature Request: CD Booklet

Postby masbe » 12. May 06, 19:04

Hi Guys!

Feature Request
===============
Having used SilverJuke for a number of months now, I've relegated my CDs to the attic :-D . Problem is, if I'm listening to a track and want to look up the CD booklet to get more information on who's performing on a particular track, who produced it etc. - I can't! at least, not without trying to locate the original CD Booklet: now buried with a couple of hundred other CDs in a box in the attic :-(

I request that a feature be added that allows images of the entire CD booklet to be displayed e.g. right click on album art - menu item shows an option to "Display CD Booklet" images. Default naming something like 1.jpg for page 1, 2.jpg for page 2 etc. Once the booklet is being displayed, there could be a menu option (or a transparent button/s?) for Next / Previous pages.

I know that locating CD album cover art online is relatively easy. Locating entire booklets could be difficult! Nevertheless, have SilverJuke the capacity to create a booklet image repository that users could access? Would there by copyright problems? CD art is readily available, why not the inside pages? Is my feature request a great idea, but impossible to practically implement?

However, if this feature was available - and if the images were readily accessible - is this something other users would like to see?

Cheers,
Brian

Hello Brian,

Silverjuke provides some function for searching information to an artist or to an album on the web: just click right on a title and select the option "<Artist> on the web...":

Have you tried this?

Well, maybe the function is a little hidden, but Silverjuke already supports displaying more than one image per album - or displaying complete booklets:

Just copy all images (of the booklett) into the same directory where the cover is placed; if you then double click on the cover, you can paginate forward and backward through the images using the cursor keys. With the right mouse button, you can also select an image directly.

If you add new images to the folders, please make sure, the database is up to date by hitting F5.

Yes, unfortunately, we think this will be a problem.

Interesting - I didn't know about the multiple image support. Thanks: I'll look into it!

Re: Feature Request: CD Booklet

Regarding the multiple image support--
indeed I found that the program displays other images in the folder where the MP3's are located, then I double-click on the displayed cover and then when the arrow keys are pressed, I can paginate through the material. This is an awesome feature!!

However, can you tell me, in what order does Silverjuke move through the files. I thought it would be the sort order of the files in the folder or something like that, but it seems somewhat random. If I add another image to the folder and then rebuild the database, then the order of pagination changes in seemingly unpredictable ways! Can you offer me some insight to the mysteries of Silverjuke in this regard?

many thanks!

Under "normal" cicumstances, this is the order, however, it may be affected by some additional criterions - which may be changed on a normal update.

For future versions of Silverjuke, the sorting of this list will be more reproducible and a "normal" update should not change the existing order.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,
thank you very much for the reply. It sounds like I might go ahead with the program, and, eventually at the next Silverjuke version update, the multiple image support will move through the files in unchanged and predictable order.

A final question please -- in case this version update takes some time -- is it possible for the user to fix the issue by writing a "skin" or "script." (thereby saving you some work ;) ).
many thanks
