Sound slows when switching to karaoke mode

HI there,
I am using Silverjuke 2.74
it currently is used as a jukebox but recently I have added some karaoke tracks too

often when playing a track in karaoke mode (and sometimes in normal music playback)
the sound will slow to a crawl and playback will not resume until I stop the track and press play again.

I am running Silverjuke on a dedicated pc running Windows 7
which has a 2.5GHz celeron processor and 1GB of memory
it has over 100GB of memory free and about 10GB of MP3 tracks
the microphones are logitech USB type
and the karaoke tracks are an MP3/CDG files

I have tried the following:
lowering the sample playback rate on both the soundcard and in the jukebox settings.
disabling audio devices which are not used.
reducing the track queue size to 16.
running windows update.
disabling all running applications apart from the jukebox.

any suggestions?

just as an update
the issue only seems to happen when the Microphone is enabled in silverjuke,

it doesn't matter if the mic is actually plugged in or not just if it is enabled in the devices settings

I have had a bit of a play and think I have found a workaround.

By going into the Windows control panel and setting the pc to permanently listen to the microphone then it bypasses the need to select a microphone through silverjuke

this seems to get rid of the problem

I had a bit of a play with the settings on silverjuke and the best result was achieved when setting the buffer to 4ms however the issue never entirely went away and the tracks play about 2% slower when the microphone 1 or 2 is enabled.
