Re: Eagle BlueTouch & RedTouch Skin
The skin is great!
While the minimalist feeling is a great idea, it would appear that a few key functions are missing:
My thoughts:
1) Why not create a few simple "filter" screens similar to the search screen. Instead of the alphabetical buttons, the lower screen area could be populated with dynamic "year" or "genere" buttons. Many of us have thousands of albums of greatly differing eras and genres. It is very cumbersome to page through thousands of albums AND not have the track lists available without clicking on each album.
2) Play/pause transport functionality should be added to the track position slider. The "click on the lower half" functionality is not intuitive.
3) A ratings OPTION would be great as well. A simple set of star icons in the same circular theme? Making it optional can allow or prevent guests from adjusting ratings.
4) An OPTION to allow visualizations to play in FULL SCREEN mode and stop on mouse/touch or keyboard event? Not only would the option be nice, but would also act as a screen saver.
5) The search timeout script does not work with your custom serach screen (and in fact causes strange functionality in the standard view window). Can we get a timeout feature to return users to the full album list? I would imagine that this is trivial.
I know each person has an idea of a "perfect" interface, so please take my requests as such.

Following up on my previous post:
Not sure from a technical standpoint why the warning can not be supressed. The F3 feature is fairly nice and a simple TOGGLE VIEW button could be created. As I stated, having to click on each album to see the tracks is very cumbersome. Why not have the option to supress the double click message and allow the main screen to use the different views. Even IF the tracks are displayed, clicking on the ALBUM or a TRACK would bring you to the track selection screen. The functionalty of F3 only partly works now. 1) it creates the double click error dialog and 2) moving to teh next screen or track selection RESETS the view to the skins default. Can you please give this some serious consideration?

I agree 100% and feel some of the options I have proposed would fit this schema very well if implemented properly. I would be more than willing to help refine the ideas, as I feel this is by FAR the best skin I have seen for SilverJuke.
Kind regards,
Bill

Re: Eagle BlueTouch & RedTouch Skin
Hi Bill,
Thanks for al the feedback, and expect to see quite a lot of it back in my next skin (see my teaser at http://forum.silverjuke.net/viewtopic.php?t=3188).
But although I will give every single remark you made a second thoughts, nearly none of it will make it into this skin. The reason is that the target audience is totally different. In my opinion Silverjuke was lacking a newbie/party/computerilliterate skin, this skin was designed to fill that void.
Any option added to it makes for more choices for the user. For instance adding different 'views' would mean there would be more 'screens', leading to "how do I get back to the nice album overview" and "five minutes ago it looked different?" thoughts. This I really want to avoid for this skin - in fact the warning itself is just there because I cannot 100% control SJ and only detect after the fact that the user selected a different mode, what I'd prefer is totally disable the option, F3, doubleclick etc altogether.
I will keep this skin as simple as possible (think intoxicated-party-compatible), but I think you will like my next design. Be patient
(By the way: did you try out the latest version of this skin? The after-idle-time-goto-mainscreen you asked for has actually been added some versions ago - an example of something which added to the party-usability so very suitable for this skin)

Re: Eagle BlueTouch & RedTouch Skin
Thanks for the prompt reply :)
I had hoped to not be dragged into learning another scripting language and development methodology, but it looks like I may have to figure out how to build SJ skins and embark on a similar project.
I would attempt to modify the skin you created but I fear that jumping in with no frame of reference (no pun) will make the learning process much harder.
Your new design looks cool, but does not appear to be my kind of toy (though as you mention in the thread it is only a single screenshot so far) :) The red/blue skin is almost perfect minus the few features I mentioned. At the very least I would like the default view to be Cover+tracks instead of just covers.
Like I said, I am SURE that each persons idea of "perfect" is going to be different, so don't take it my remarks as anything more than an explanation of MY dream... Your creation comes damn close!
