Hmm, writing files should work. In older versions there was a bug, but at least in the most recent 16.5.3 it should work (CAVE: 16.3.5 still had the bug)
Regarding mysql: It should be possible to call mysql via - however, we've not tested this at all.

Manage to get log file to work on version 16.5.3 (Linux Ubuntu) instead of 16.2.
Could you please help to get date and time added to log file?
